End the Shark Fin Trade in the UK
In June 2019, Canada became the first country of the G7 to ban shark fin imports. Increasingly, people around the world are demanding an end to shark finning as a barbaric and cruel practice. The UK is also opposed to shark finning, but importing shark fins is still allowed. While it is illegal to bring meat, dairy products or potatoes into the UK, you can legally bring in 20 kg of shark fins—which represents about seven sharks.
In February 2020, an initiative to ban the trade in shark fins was put forth by European Union citizens, asking for a million signatures within the year. If you live in the EU and/or have friends or family in the EU please encourage them to sign the initiative.
