SRI has closed its project involving tiger sharks in Hawaii due to pollution of the site and heavy boat traffic. The study has been moved to Tiger Beach, Bahamas, a large area on the Little Bahama Bank off Grand Bahama Island. The site became part of the National Shark Sanctuary that was established in the Bahamas in 2011.  Drs. Debra and Vincent Canabal have been working with this population of tiger sharks at the site for the past 13 years, documenting their migration patterns, pregnancy cycles, personalities and behaviors.

Two of these sharks are available for adoption. Emma is perhaps the most famous, and most photographed tiger shark in the world. She was named back in 2003 and was a full-sized female at that time. She continues to return to the site year after year. Jitterbug showed up on the scene as a juvenile shark in 2015, at which time she was barely four feet in length. Today, she has doubled in size, is fully mature having had at least one pregnancy already, and is famous for her antics and acrobatics.

SRI members may now adopt Emma, Jitterbug or both! For a donation of $150 to SRI a tiger shark guardian will receive a digital image of their shark that they can print, a fact sheet about tiger sharks, and will receive updates about their shark during the season.

Please specify which shark you wish to adopt (Emma or Jitterbug), the name and email address of the shark's guardian.
