Pink Manta Ray

The bubble-gum pink manta ray, named “Inspector Clouseau” in homage to the detective from the Pink Panther films, has only been seen seven times since he was first discovered in 2015. He lives off Australia’s Lady Elliot Island, located in Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, and measures 11 feet.  A skin biopsy by Project Manta in 2016 ruled out illness or diet as causes for this male’s unique color. It is now thought to be due to a genetic mutation.
